After a goalless first half, the USA scored two goals in the second half to clinch the game. Carli Lloyd opened the scoring in the 31st minute and was assisted by Heather O’Reilly. Carli then added her third, a rocket strike from outside the box that flew past the Russian keeper. Sydney Leroux also scored a brace, making the final score six. With those two goals, the USA is well on its way to the semifinals.
The United States and Russia are both prepping for challenges from Russia in the Middle East. Yet, their steady strategies for Russia’s development and foreign policy remain unclear. While the United States claims to be ready to protect its national interests if Russia makes a threat, it also appears to lack a coherent strategy to manage the risks associated with worsening social and economic issues. As a result, Russia is not likely to be the sole aggressor in the region.

The United States is a great country with an impressive history of arms races, but Russia is no longer a friend of free trade.
